MCP (Model Context Protocol)

An open standard for connecting AI assistants to tools and data sources in a uniform way.

What it is

MCP defines how an AI application discovers and uses external tools and data — files, databases, business systems — through "MCP servers". Instead of a custom integration for every assistant, a system is connected once and can be used by any compatible client.

Example

A company exposes its document archive through an MCP server, and the assistant can search it without a dedicated plugin.

What can go wrong

Every connected server extends what the assistant can reach and do; a malicious or compromised server can feed it hostile instructions.

How to secure it

Connect only servers you trust and control, give them minimal permissions, and review what each tool can do before enabling it.
