Data leakage
Confidential information escaping through an AI system — to a provider, to other users or into answers.
Security path · 2 of 5
What it is
Leaks happen in several ways: employees paste data into public chat tools, providers store or reuse inputs, retrieval shows documents to the wrong person, or a model repeats secrets from its instructions.
Example
A sales rep pastes a client's price list into a chatbot on a private account; the company no longer knows where that data went.
What can go wrong
Loss of trade secrets, broken client contracts and personal-data incidents.
How to secure it
Offer a sanctioned tool with clear data terms, enforce access rights in retrieval, keep secrets out of prompts, and monitor what leaves.
EU rules
When personal data is involved, the GDPR applies to AI processing like to any other: a legal basis, a clear purpose and data minimization.
Plain-language summary, not legal advice.
