What it is
Open-weight models can be downloaded and run outside the original developer's cloud — on your servers or with a hosting provider you select. Licenses differ: some allow almost any use, others restrict commercial use or attach conditions.

A manufacturer runs a smaller open-weight model on its own servers, so that technical drawings never leave the plant.
What can go wrong
Running a model yourself makes you responsible for updates, security and capacity; license conditions are easy to miss.

Read the license, download weights only from trusted sources, and treat the model server like any other production system.
